Mecoh Bain (she/her) is a freelance photographer whose work is largely informed by her experience as a bi-racial woman. Mecoh’s practice turns honest moments into soulful imagery, giving a voice to those who have historically been overlooked.

Her work is anchored in storytelling and celebration of community, empowering her subjects with the permission to be seen and honoured. Her style is minimal and refreshing through the use of colour and clean lines.

As a woman of colour, Mecoh feels the responsibility to shift the narrative and bring diversity and representation of BIPOC and LGBTQ2IA+ communities to the forefront of contemporary art and commercial photography.

In the spirit of reconciliation, I recognize that we live on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy) and the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes Siksika, Piikani, Blood Tribe/Kainai, Tsuut’ina, and the îyârhe Nakodabi (Stoney-Nakoda) First Nations, including Chiniki, Bearpaw, and Wesley First Nations. Mohkinstsis (Calgary) is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta Region III. I stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities and understand that we must collectively take action towards reconciliation.
